Academic English Skills

Academic English Skills aims to provide thorough training in the language and related academic skills which will enable international students to best achieve their academic potential at university. Our Academic English programme is validated by UK ENIC, the UK government agency responsible for providing information and expert opinion on qualifications and skills worldwide.

You will develop awareness and competency in a range of language-related academic skills, including the processes of academic writing, effective and extensive reading strategies, effective participation in seminars and delivery of presentations, and listening to and recording information effectively from lectures. You will also develop the accuracy and range of written and spoken language required to use language effectively and appropriately, with clarity and confidence in an academic context.

Alongside your classes, your studies will be supported by an online learning platform, providing you with a range of tasks and activities specifically designed to develop and extend your language and academic skills outside the classroom and to give you more control over your own learning.

Entrepreneurship

This module will provide you with a practical and interactive learning experience and will equip you with the essential knowledge, skills, and experience to challenge prior assumptions and stretch your imagination and creativity. You will gain an understanding of business practices in a range of contexts. The aims of this module focus on establishing and developing your understanding of how to manage a business, as well as familiarising you with the challenges that businesses face.

The module will provide you with an insight into the fundamental theories and concepts found within the business environment, in order to provide you with a foundation of knowledge and understanding of the macro, micro and internal business environments in which businesses operate in and understanding how these are practically applied when setting-up and running a business.

Financial and Economic Analysis for Business

This module will ensure you develop the financial and economic literacy necessary to succeed in a business management course. The course will help you develop the core skills needed to understand financial statements, employ ratios to assess the relative positions of businesses and make effective decisions based on financial data. In addition you will be introduced to basic economic analysis and how individual businesses are impacted by the wider economic environment.

Organisational Behaviour

This module will introduce you to theories, topics and content about the behaviour and management of people in organisations. This will incorporate the different levels of business, such as individuals, groups and teams through to departmental, business and organisational levels. This will provide opportunities for you to analyse and reflect on and learn from your own and others’ experiences and behaviours in the group.

You will be introduced to a range of real-world business situations using case studies, to understand how topics such as leadership, motivation, culture and politics can impact organisational decisions. These can be applied throughout your time at university and equip you with the knowledge to take into your future work and organisations.

Studying and Research in Business Management
