Once you have completed the programme, and achieved the required grades, you will have the opportunity to progress to the second year of your chosen degree at Leeds Beckett University. In previous years, volunteering opportunities have included placements at the Olympics, World Athletics Championships and Commonwealth Games.
The Carnegie School of Sport, part of Leeds Beckett University, boasts state-of-the-art facilities designed to support both academic and athletic excellence. The school offers an indoor athletics centre, extensive outdoor sports pitches, and a fully equipped sports therapy clinic, providing a comprehensive environment for research, education, and training.
Please note that you are expected to attend 100% of your classes at the International Study Centre or you are at risk of losing your Student visa.
Academic English Skills
Academic English Skills aims to provide thorough training in the language and related academic skills which will enable international students to best achieve their academic potential at university. Our Academic English programme is validated by UK ENIC, the UK government agency responsible for providing information and expert opinion on qualifications and skills worldwide.
You will develop awareness and competency in a range of language-related academic skills, including the processes of academic writing, effective and extensive reading strategies, effective participation in seminars and delivery of presentations, and listening to and recording information effectively from lectures. You will also develop the accuracy and range of written and spoken language required to use language effectively and appropriately, with clarity and confidence in an academic context.
Alongside your classes, your studies will be supported by an online learning platform, providing you with a range of tasks and activities specifically designed to develop and extend your language and academic skills outside the classroom and to give you more control over your own learning.
Human Physiology and Kinesiology in Sport and Exercise Science
This module aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of sport and exercise physiology, enabling you to effectively apply your knowledge and skills in measuring physiological functions. It will also introduce biomechanics and an understanding of the human structure, and the underlying principles of human movement.
Human Behaviour in Sport and Exercise Science
This module aims to introduce you to the fundamental principles and origins of sport and exercise psychology as a scientific study of human behaviour within sport and exercise contexts.
Nutrition (for health and sports performance)
This module provides you with an understanding of food as energy, and the concept of energy and how the body utilises it. By understanding metabolism and energy utilisation, you will develop an understanding of the importance of nutrition in maintaining body functions during rest and activity.
Studying and Research in Sport and Exercise Science
The module is aimed at developing your fundamental knowledge of research philosophies and data collection methods, and to give you an opportunity to apply the knowledge to derive a research proposal within your area of study.
